Make-up Free - is this the new anti-ageing trick?

It's the last day of the bank holiday weekend and I just washed my face after a little lie in. As you do on a long weekend. To make up or not, I debate as I stand in the bathroom. Screw it, I decide, what a process and it's a holiday. If make up free is good enough for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, It's good enough for me!

Celebs sans make up - its a new trend! That got me to thinking...are make up free days a thing and are they good for you? Googling away with my feet up and my face make up free, I discovered that actually, make up free days are highly recommended by dermatologists! Make up contains parabens, a type of preservative, which accumulates on your skin and clogs pores. They lead to a breakdown in collagen and elastin in the skin, this can lead to premature ageing and breakouts! In fact two thirds of British woman wear make up 7 days a week and three quarters of them report having regular breakouts! Going sans make up increases the skin cell turnover and gives you a more youthful, healthier complexion and decreases the risks of fine lines and wrinkles! It's not only the make up that's a problem but also the removing of the products. Most make up removers are harsh on the skin and can strip the natural moisture from the top layers. Sleeping with make up only makes the problem worse! The best steps to include in your make up regime are: 1. Cleanse twice daily to remove preservatives and dirt that clog pores 2. Tone to tighten pores and balance the skins acidity 3. Moisturise to hydrate the skin 4. Have make up free days! 5. Always use an SPF of 30 or more to protect from UV rays 6. Add a serum to your night regime to renew skin for an added treat.

Enjoy the rest of the bank holiday weekend, put your feet up, the make up brush down and give your skin a rest!
